I started bicycle racing in 1979 as a cure for the listless high school years and soon found that I was much at it better at than soccer! I did well my first few years and moved up to a category 2 and had the good fortune to spend a winter in 1985 in Colorado Springs at the Olympic Training Center. I was totally engaged in the sport until the late 80′s. By the way that is when Davis Phinney was winning about half the races he entered!
I have raced on the track, off-road, and more recently took three years to explore my talents as a triathlete completing in two Ironman events in 2009. Career accomplishments include 13 State Championships. Perhaps my most memorable cycling moment was winning two races on the same day in Athens Ga back in 1984…..wish I had that kind of recovery now! Now back on the bike full time, riding with one of the strongest masters squads in the Southeast, I am very excited about the 2010 season which will include a trip to Belgium to watch Flanders and Roubaix, a 12 hour mountian bike race, and a bid at Master’s Nationals.
